Update on Projects: Fr. Chuck

  • The ambry (the cabinet for the holy oils in baptistery area) is due May 19 or 20, 2005.
  • Work is scheduled to begin in June 2005 involving cladding/accenting the altar, tabernacle pedestal, presider's chair and ambo with marble identical to that used on the new baptistery. This is an effort to architecturally unite the sanctuary with the baptistry, Council was supportive of the project.
  • The 'Welcoming' Christ statue is being acquired by donation from a parishioner, with a granite pedestal donated by Catholic Cemeteries. The approximately 4 _ ft statue will be raised onto the 2 _ ft pedestal in front of the wall between the main gates. Installation is expected in late summer. The Council thought well of the plan.
  • A question was asked about the renovation of the kitchen in the gym. This was not considered a high priority since two other kitchens are available on the campus.
General Update:
  • All positions for the parish and school staff, for the coming year have been filled.
  • John and Dee Campbell will assume responsibility from Pat Ehret for RCIA. Council joined Fr. Chuck commenting on the hard work and dedication shown by Pat Ehret on her work with RCIA and the many other parish activities.
  • The parish music and liturgy for the parish and school were discussed.
  • Jen Pfister will leave to pursue full time studies. Gina Keating will assist with the School of Religion.
Liturgy Update:
  • There will be a video at all the masses regarding the new confirmation and initiation rites: 2nd grade children will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation and 3rd grade children will receive the sacraments of the Eucharist and Confirmation. The flow of the Mass will be Confirmation !homily ! Eucharist. Purpose of the change is to increase the bond between the sacraments.
  • Comments on God and Coffee were positive. The request for additional emphasis on 6:30am Mass was noted. Council agreed on the notice in the Bulletin on a frequent basis and on the web site. Rob will follow thru on this.
7:40PM
Old Business Rob Kubasko for Neil Urban
  • Minutes from March were approved as written.
  • Council remarked on the solemnity of the papal election, and the expansive video coverage. Council members also remarked on how current the school age children were on the current events.
  • Council expressed thanks to Fr. Chuck on the liturgy from Palm Sunday thru to Easter; and the vigil Mass for the pope. Many parishioners were heard to express appreciation for the priest's reading of the Gospel on Palm Sunday.
  • Rob listed the names of potential council members for the 2005+ term.
  • June 08 Council closure planned for 6pm - members should send a list of food and fluids s/he will bring. Spousal partners are invited. A map will be provided. Fr. Chuck agreed to offering Mass. The tentative plan is:
    6:00pm social
    6:15pm Mass
    Supper
    Meeting
    Dessert
    Closure
8:05PM
New Business: Rob Kubasko
  • Website update: Rob showed plans for updating and increasing the continuity of the web site. The work on integrating the Bulletin and the Website continues.
  • Little Rock planned for fall. Plans to avoid breaks in the meeting dates. Reminders go out with a schedule of activity. Those who attended gave positive feedback. Focus will be Women of the old or new testament. To be decided.
  • Music Liturgy 7:30pm Sunday Mass - Billie Young
Billie Young mentioned that the 7:30am hymn selection is not 'upbeat' and not familiar to the congregation. Council agreed that this was not unique to 7:30am Sunday mass and comments of a similar nature were overheard during other Masses. Fr. Chuck will refer this to the Liturgy Committee.
  • Rob gave a video presentation covering Fr. Chuck's 25th Anniversary Mass. Rob also took photos at Easter, the Pope's vigil mass and other activities. Rob suggested preparing the video as an available DVD to the community. Council supported the thought and would like to explore more details at the next meeting.
8:40PM

  • K distributed dates for 1st and 2nd Wednesdays, approx every other month for consideration and decision at the June 08 meeting. K asked Shannon for room availability and dates for Parish Welcoming, Ministry Fair, God and Coffee and confirmation since council members are asked to attend during these activities.
  • K asked for consideration of the Blue Book (advent) for Advent 2005. Council concurred. K will forward cost list to Fr. Chuck. (Done May16. 2005)
